Ray Charles I Got A Woman

I Got A Woman | Day 281

I Got A Woman, a Ray Charles song, has it’s roots in an old Gospel tune. Funny how that works.

Ray Charles I Got A WomanI Got A Woman is a song that I heard first on the movie “Mr. Holland’s Opus”. I thought that it was Ray Charles singing the song when I heard it. It’s funny how songs get their start as Ray wrote this song while on his tour bus and hearing an old Gospel tune, “My Jesus is All the World to Me”. He worked the song, having a Gospel and Blues feel within the tune. This was a bit of a shock in many circles, but it helped the song become more popular to a wider audience. While I won’t give much president to Kanye West for his rendition using the sampled lick in his 2005 song “Gold Digger”, perhaps Mr. West should find that supportive woman that Ray was writing about so she could help him out financially. Yep, I went there.

I’m going to go ahead and own a mistake in lyrics that you’ll hear on the song. When looking up the lyrics, I found a,..well,…I guess a different “version” of the song. There have been numerous instances where I thought the lyrics were one way, when, in fact, they were quite another, and I sang a different version. Man, I should have stuck to my guns,..sorry Ray.

Only 83 days left…

Lyrics:

Well…

I got a woman, way over town
That’s good to me, oh yeah
Say I got a woman, way over town
Good to me, oh yeah
She gives me money when I’m in need
Yeah, she’s a kind of friend indeed
I got a woman, way over town
That’s good to me, oh yeah

She saves her lovin’, early in the mornin’
Just for me, oh yeah
She saves her lovin’, early in the mornin’
Just for me, oh yeah
She saves her lovin’, just for me
Yeah she loves me, so tenderly
I got a woman, way over town
She’s good to me, oh yeah

[Saxophone Solo]

She’s there to love me
Both day and night
Never grumbles or fusses
Always treats me right
Never runnin’ in the streets
And leavin’ me alone
She knows a woman’s place
Is right there, now, in her home

I got a woman, way over town
That’s good to me, oh yeah
Say I got a woman, way over town
That’s good to me, oh yeah
Oh she’s my baby, oh don’t you understand
Yeah, and I’m her lover man
I got a woman, way over town
That’s good to me, oh yeah

Oh don’t you know she’s all right
Oh don’t you know she’s all right
She’s all right, she’s all right
Whoa yeah, oh yeah
