"The Fall of the Rebel Angels," painted by Pieter Bruegel the Elder

Did Satan Rebel Before or After Creation?

Job 38:4-7 (KJV) states: “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”

The “morning stars” and “sons of God” refer to the angels (Heavenly hosts) in the book of Job. Notice that “all” were present after the creation of the Earth. It could be concluded that the rebellion happened AFTER the 7th day (Genesis 1:31, 2:1-4). Basically, between Genesis 2 & 3.

If we wanted a storyboard of the creation to the fall, it might look like this using books, chapters, and verses found within the Holy Bible. They are as follows:

  1. Genesis 1 & 2 (the creation of the cosmos.)
  2. Ezekiel 28:13-14 (the creation of Lucifer.)
  3. Job 38:4-7 (the celebration of ALL Heavenly hosts.)
  4. Genesis 2:16-17 (the commandment given to Adam. Most likely, Lucifer heard it and remembered it.)
  5. Ezekiel 28:15 (the seed of sin begins.)
  6. Isaiah 14:13-14 (the motive of Lucifer.)
  7. Revelation 12:3-4 (the gathering of forces & war against Heaven.)
  8. Revelation 12:7-9 (the defeat of Satan & his angels.)
  9. Ezekiel 28:16-17 (the judgment & sentence of Satan, exposing the “why” behind the crime.)
  10. Isaiah 14:12 (the fall of Lucifer to Earth – punishment/sentencing.)
  11. Genesis 3:1-5 (the revenge of Satan.)
  12. Genesis 3:6-8 (the fall of humanity.)
