BIBLICAL Money Management

Biblical Money Management – How Money Should Be Used

The Bible has a lot to say about how Christians are to handle our money.  Since the Word was written by a single author, shouldn’t we seek God’s Advice on how our finances SHOULD go?

This article provides biblical insights from God’s Word on the principles of managing and using money and finance. Personally, I do not believe directly that we should seek God’s advice in personal finance, but I believe that it is an important part of the Bible and a key element of our relationship with God. Here we will examine three basic biblical principles on money that Christians can rely on when looking at their finances, as well as a few others.  There are many scriptures that relate to personal finances and financial management, that can be found in the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the Book of Revelation. As the manager of the money of God entrusted to you, you should want to apply His principles of money management as described below. As a steward of God’s money, you should seek His Wisdom as described in Scripture, as seen below, as well as in other areas of your life and personal finances. [Sources: 11]

Financial planning is biblical, and a resource that God has entrusted to you for your care (Prov. While we pray that God will reveal to us the principles of money management, no one is responsible for how we should use our money. [Sources: 3, 14]

These 10 key biblical principles should be the foundation of success when it comes to making your budget work for you. These ten biblical principles of finance are: be satisfied with what you have, save money, keep out of debt, work hard, live on the margins, give first, do not sign, be faithful to God as the source of all your income, keep records and seek divine counsel. If we can trust God to guide us and take care of every day of our lives, then we should build our lives around God’s financial principle. [Sources: 1, 5, 7]

In fact, it reminds us that personal diligence can also lead to wealth, and if we put our hearts and minds in all the right places, we can be better stewards of God’s money with biblical discipline. The best and smartest financial advice is found in the Bible, and it provides us with some of the best financial guidance available today, not only in terms of money management, but also in terms of life in general. One of the most mis-quoted Bible verses related to money is “money is the root of all evil.”  Only when we recognize this most frequently misquoted verse can we confidently begin to deal with money as God has called us. He is the source of all our financial blessings, so we must be faithful to money and manage it well with biblical discipline, putting our heart and mind to good use in every aspect. In other words, the Bible describes our relationship with money as a matter of good management. Although budgeting is not a word found in the Bible, the concept of budgeting is found in many other books, especially when you read it to plan and manage your budget. [Sources: 12, 13, 18]

Real financial success does not come from accumulating large surpluses in your bank account, but from following God’s plan for your finances. If you spend all you earn and never save anything, you will never be a wise steward of God’s money that He entrusted to you. Counting costs as time, money and budgeting is what we are talking about in discipleship and money (1 Cor. [Sources: 2, 6, 8]

One of the principles that the Bible emphasizes with regard to money is that if you are wise with small amounts of money, God will entrust you with more. It may not be easy, but learning what it says will go a long way to balancing your budget and avoiding the trap of excessive debt. Learn to be content with all your goods that the Lord has given you to administer, knowing that there is enough for you. [Sources: 14, 15, 16]

A good sense of money management is an effective way to reduce stress, save your marriage, improve your health, reduce misery and improve your health. The education of children in the use of money includes the biblical truths and principles that underlie administration, planning and decision-making. Knowing that God sees you as the inheritor of everything on earth and in heaven, one can see oneself as the owner of everything on earth and in heaven. [Sources: 4, 9, 10]

The Bible makes it clear that you should save for a rainy day, but it never tells you how much is too much or too little. Two things that God encourages to save money are providing an inheritance and saving for rainy days are two things that He encourages. [Sources: 8, 12]

Rather, the Bible gives us a guiding principle to take care of our own: Live in contentment (1 Timothy 6: 6-8). (see also 1 Tim. Do not love money, but be content with what you have; live and live, not love money. Love not money; be content with what you have, and be happy with all that you have (2 Timothy 3: 5-6).
