The New Wolves

“The New Wolves” – A Prophetic Poem

After hearing the words of a Christian prophet today, this song instantly came to mind.  If you are reading this and you don’t see the song, it’ll be up very soon.

Verse A:

Times are grownin’ short now,
the wolves are in the church.
The prophet is a preachin’
while the people untuck their shirts.

Verse B:

The holy ones are sweatin’
while the dogs nudge the pews,
and wake the sleeping statues
with things that they gotta do.

Chorus:

It’s a rough road ahead now
and a narrow one too,
brace yourselves, my children
and hold on, to my few
for the wolves are at the door now
and the virgins are asleep.
The wolves are mighty hungry
and the prophets, they will eat

Verse A:

The dogs reach the prophet
and bit him on the arm
and the children in the front
start to raise their own alarm

Verse B:

And the statues come to life
aroused from their long naps
with bloodshot, dull eyes
they become a violent pack

Chorus:

It’s a rough road ahead
and a narrow one too
brace yourselves, my children
and hold on, to my few
for the wolves are at the door
and the virgins are asleep
The wolves are mighty hungry
and the prophets, they will eat

Verse A:

They haul the prophet down
and the screaming children too
and beat them to a silence
the many, became few

Verse B:

And the statues began to howl
and lick their crimson fur,
and all ran out the door,
new wolves for the herd.

Chorus:

It’s a rough road ahead
and a narrow one too
brace yourselves, my children
and hold on, to my few
for the wolves are at the door
and the virgins are asleep
The wolves are mighty hungry
and the prophets, they will eat
