Hold On Kansas

“Hold On” by Kansas | Day 282

“Hold On”, a song by Kansas on day 282 has shown me how I want to do things and how this site / blog will change after this under the overpass thing is done.

Hold On Kansas“Hold On” is a song I’ve done a few times in church.  I knew the tune and knew that it was one of those “middle of the road” songs in Christian circles, meaning that the song can be seen as talking about God / Jesus or talking about something a bit more secular.  When I brought up the lyrics and did my usual review before singing under the overpass, I was struck with how profound the song really was and how it addressed a part of my life that I had gone through many years ago.

Look in the mirror and tell me just what you see“, is the opening verse to this Kansas song.  It’s a verse that I had spoken to myself so long ago.  When you get older, you begin to ponder, just as the person the song is talking about is pondering, what the years have taught you.  For me, the pain of dying innocence was a very hurtful time in my life.  My friends had gone on with their lives and strangers were all around me.  I felt like I was left alone.  It got to the point where I felt completely numb and didn’t care about anything.  While I did get past this time in my life, the review of this song made me remember and it makes me more empathetic to those going through the same thing.  Songs have a way of encapsulating a specific piece of time and it almost seems like the singer / songwriter / musicians are “speaking” directly to me.  That’s the power that music has, to bring people to the heights of joy, or to the depths of pain and despair.

This project will be over soon, but I know what I’ll be doing after it’s all said and done.

I’m a different and odd type of dude that has had a very interesting existence.  When you stop to think about it, everyone has an interesting existence, but not everyone finds their particular “voice” from which to speak.  On day 282, I have found my voice and it is one that I will keep doing until I die.  I will continue this singing, but in various places as well as under the overpass.  I will share my experiences, my thoughts, my goofiness and everything else and encapsulate these things in a song.  No, I won’t “sing the blog”, but the posts will be like this one, finding the song that “speaks to me” about,..anything.  I’ve found my voice, my way of bringing ideas into this world; it only took me 281 days to figure it out.

Only 82 days left…

Lyrics:

Look in the mirror and tell me
Just what you see
What have the years of your life
Taught you to be
Innocence dyin’ in so many ways
Things that you dream of are lost
Lost in the haze

Hold on, baby, hold on
‘Cause it’s closer than you think
And you’re standing on the brink
Hold on, baby, hold on
‘Cause there’s something on the way
Your tomorrow’s not the same as today

Don’t you recall what you felt
When you weren’t alone
Someone who stood by your side
A face you have known
Where do you run when it’s too much to bear
Who do you turn to in need
When nobody’s there

Hold on, baby, hold on
‘Cause it’s closer than you think
And you’re standing on the brink
Hold on, baby, hold on
‘Cause there’s something on the way
Your tomorrow’s not the same as today

Outside your door he is waiting
Waiting for you
Sooner or later you know
He’s got to get through
No hesitation and no holding back
Let it all go and you’ll know
You’re on the right track

Hold on, baby, hold on (hold on to me baby)
‘Cause it’s closer than you think
And you’re standing on the brink
Hold on, baby, hold on (yeah I need you by my side)
‘Cause there’s something on the way
Your tomorrow’s not the same

Hold on, baby, hold on (I got talk to you baby)
‘Cause it’s closer than you think
And you’re standing on the brink
Hold on, baby, hold on (there’s something on the corner)
‘Cause there’s something on the way
Your tomorrow’s not the same as today
Hold on
