Dancing in the Sun

“Dancing in the Sun”

Before my wife and I dated, tragedy visited her in the death of her child. I knew then, just as I know now that while she goes through life and has joy, she has a little bit of sadness that she carries with her.

The story behind the song

Before my wife and I dated, tragedy visited her in the death of her child. I knew then, just as I know now that while she goes through life and has joy, she has a little bit of sadness that she carries with her. In watching her deal with this loss and still have a victorious life through Jesus, I started my path back to the Lord. My beautiful wife understands that one day, she will see her son again, and they will be dancing in the Sun.

I feel a need to explain the song’s “feel”. The death of a child is horrible and I don’t mean to make light of it with the upbeat feel. My reason for the vibe of the tune is to reflect what I saw in my wife. She had “sadness in her song” throughout her days and, to be sure, she carries some sadness over the loss of her child, but every day, she rests in the assured hope that she will be reunited with him, that he’s in a far better place.

Lyrics

4 measure break

Verse

On a day, not long ago
We were walking, hand in hand
In the rain one Spring day
And then the next, you went away
Oh my heart, it cried for you
My brightest days then turned blue
My sweetest child of mine
Now you’re gone,..now you’re gone and left life behind

2 measure break

Verse

Oh the days turned into weeks
The months turned into years
And the birthdays that came and went
Had no candles, no presents
Oh my life has carried on
With some sadness in my song
I have joy in my days
And the sadness,..and the sadness that will stay

2 measure break

Chorus

Are you dancing in the sun
Has the morning just begun
Do you feel the Spring grass under your feet
With everything you see
Do you even think of me?

4 measure break

Verse

Now my days, they are but few
Near the end, I think of you
When I see you, will you know me
It’s been too long, but now I see
That you’re dancing in the sun
Your day has just begun
In this far and distant place
Death has lost,..death has lost to love’s grace

Chorus

And we’re dancing in the sun
Now our morning has just begun
Now I feel the Spring grass under my feet
No longer am I alone
Oh my child, we’re home
